I redesigned and developed Loft City Church’s website in one week after the old theme crashed after a WordPress update. The new theme has dynamic sections for the user to easily create new pages, cleaner/more maintainable code, and updated sections for sermons and events.
Using ACF’s “flexible fields,” I created a variety of modules that can be pieced together to create a customized page. In the following example page, each section is a module. The user can drag and drop different sections together, enter custom content, and rearrange the page layout however they want.
The previous theme had limited capabilities in allowing the user to upload, sort, and filter sermons. I installed a plugin called Sermon Manager that did all of this functionality for you. This allowed church staff to upload content on their own without asking a developer to do it.
Another new plugin I found and downloaded to help staff manage their website autonomously was The Events Calendar. Users can easily create and manage new events on their own, where each new event has its own page. This also eliminated the need for a developer to add events for them.
From the pastor:
“A lot of you don’t know this, but our website went down last week with no possible way of recovering the full site.
I wanted to give a really quick shout-out and thank you to Jessica Pei who worked tirelessly over the last week to help us fix and get a brand new site for church. So grateful for all that she did and excited about our site.”
